Tiger Woods has done it! You knew it wasn’t a question of if but a matter of when. The greatest golfer in the world has run down another hallowed mark and is now standing on top the mountain. His whole career has been about number 20. And now he has it! This morning marks the 20th consecutive day Woods has hit the front page of the New York Post, breaking the record previously held by…wait for it…9-11!
“Infideldrick” is getting more run than 9-11? In that town?! At least our priorities are straight.
And needless to say, the snappy headline writers at the Post are having a field day at Woods’ expense. A woman claims Eldrick wanted to spank her?! The Post screams, “Tiger in the Rough”. A woman claims he paid her hush money? “Tiger’s Green Fees.” A madam says Eldrick threw down for hookers? “Ho, Tiger!” Fish in a barrel, baby.
And as far as the Post’s report that Woods is out banging golf balls at night under cover. Yeah, I believe that about as much as I believe tour commissioner Tim Finchem when he says Woods isn’t bigger than the sport and that his scandal won’t have that big an impact. If we have a word for analysis that myopic, Commissioner. “Ehhhhhhh!”
Yeah, he’s not bigger than your sport. Yeah, and he didn’t like a little on the side either. Or a lot! The little on the side was his wife. While, I don’t expect you to say you’ll just fold your tent without Woods, you probably should! The economy is jacked, sponsorships are down, and your viewership plummeted nearly 50% while Woods was off rehabbing his knee and chasing skirt.
With him, the sport matters. Without him, it has niche appeal. You can lie to yourself, just don’t lie to us, Commissioner.
