Tebowmaniacs clamoring for Broncos Executive V.P. of Football Operations John Elway to commit to Tim Tebow finally got their wish yesterday when Elway said TRT is his man. He is officially, the Broncos starting quarterback. Going into training camp.
How’s that for a commitment Tebow honks. Not, Tim’s our guy. Or even Tim’s our starter next year. Just…, he’s our starter going into training camp. Not much a reward for a guy who led a 1-4 team into the playoffs and then shocked Pittsburgh once he got there.

Fact is, Elway is handling this perfectly. The easy call would have been to play to the crowd, give the people what they want and say the Broncos will ride or die with Tebow in the future. But Elway's hasn’t and he won’t. And no, Elway is not rooting for Tebow to fail. He’s just not sold on him as a franchise quarterback. And he’s right not to be.
Fact is, Tebow didn’t revolutionize the position; and while the system they’re running right now gave them their best chance to win this year, they can’t win a Super Bowl with it. It’s still a passing league: and Tebow is going to have to prove he can pass accurately and consistently from the pocket and in tight windows. He still hasn’t done that. And Elway wants a quarterback like Tom Brady and himself, and Tebow, isn’t anything like either one of them... Look, Tebowmania was incredible: I’ve never seen anything like it. And he did pull off some crazy wins; but while he may have helped save an entire season, he can’t lead them where they need to go playing the way he does. Elway knows this and that’s why he won’t commit to him. And until Tebow gives him a reason to. He shouldn’t.
