Steve Smith Has One Rule

This just in....Steve Smith will go! And to any defensive backs out there who have never faced Smith, when you're preparing for him during the week there are a few basic things you need to know before you try to check him.
One, he's very dangerous after the catch! He loves to throw double-moves. He doesn't give up on plays. And perhaps more importantly...he will go. I say this because apparently some young D-backs in the league haven't read the scouting report on Steve Smith and don’t know what this guy is about. Don’t know his deal! No names mentioned…Vikings’ corner Benny Sapp.
Sapp ran his gap at Smith last night. And that was all #89 needed to spend the second half abusing and embarrassing Sapp. Then when the game ended, an embarrassing loss by the Vikes in a game they had to have…Smith broke down the rules of his game. And to hear him tell him, it’s really, very, very simple!
You know how that went down, right. Smith is minding his own business. Just playing the game! And Sapp, a journeyman starts yapping…so at this point, Smith thinks, “is that how it is? Really! You do know you’re undrafted free agent…out of Northern Iowa…who has four career picks in six years. And I’m Steve smith…four time pro-bowler and a guy with 569 career receptions. You know that right? Any way, here’s how this is going to go. Here are the rules for the rest of the game. Actually, there’s just one rule for the rest of the game: ‘89’. Let me know if I’m going too fast for you and I’ll slow it down. One rule: ‘89’.”
That’s was the one rule Sapp had to follow and he couldn’t do it! 9 catches, 157 yards and a house call later…the game was over. Thanks for coming!
So just to recap…you’re Benny Sapp and he’s Steve Smith. And allow me to add a second rule! Don’t antagonize Steve Smith. Don’t make him angry. You wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Especially, if you don’t have the game to cover your mouth!
It’s been a bad year for the Panthers. They’ve had lots of trouble at QB; they haven’t been able to get the ball to “89” consistently…you know he can’t be in the best of moods. So the last thing you want to do is give this guy a reason to go on national TV. That wasn’t Steve Smith giving props to my call screener! That was a ticked off Steve Smith. And Sapp was the guy teasing the “barking dog tied to a tree”. Sooner or later, “that leash is going to snap and that dog is going to attack”.
Let this be a lesson to you. “89”! Oh, and one more thing: that dog will bite and he never, ever forgets!
Nice to see my man “89” back doing what he does best! Abusing the uninitiated and teaching class. Pound for pound, still the baddest, proudest cat under the shield. Love the guy!
