How do you spell champion? S-A-D-I-E. Four words, “Sadie the freaking Scottie”. The greatest dog in the world just got over and assured her place in four legged history by going “Best in Show” at the Westminster Dog Show. She did what the very best do in all sports…play big on the biggest stage of all and finish. And make no mistake…she had to have to it!
Despite winning 111 times worldwide, she was still rocking the best ever not to win at the Westminster title. There was definitely a “yeah…but” attached to her little tail. The questioned haunted her and her handlers. “Hadn’t won the big one”, or “couldn’t win the big one”. The scrappy little Scottie was rapped as the “Tony Romo” of the dog world. And rightfully so! That collar always got a little tighter on the big stage. And it’s pretty tough to compete with both paws wrapped around your throat. She got spooked in ‘08. And then hit rock bottom when she disgraced herself by soiling the carpet last year. Trust me, “Stump the Spaniel” didn’t win it as much as Sadie lost it ‘09.
But that’s all history now as Sadie did what all the great ones do. Balled-up big when it mattered most! Her legacy is now intact. And for my money, if I have to win just one event, I’m putting the leash on “Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot”.
