Extremely emotional day for the Bengals who had to come to San Diego and play a game in an unbelievably hostile environment, just three days after they lost their teammate Chris Henry. “Ochocinco” considered taking the field in Chris Henry’s jersey before…but decided not to do it. He felt it would have been a distraction and ultimately not the best way to honor Henry.
I think he did the right thing in not doing it, but I think some of the heat he took for considering it was misplaced and out of line. He wasn’t looking to make it about him. That wasn’t a pub grab for Chad…a look at me moment. Chris Henry was his guy! He loved him! He was extremely close to him. Even referred to him as his little brother!
Chad was coming from a very good place when he thought about wearing his jersey. He was trying to figure out the best way to honor him and ultimately decided Henry wouldn’t have liked the distraction and all the drama that came along with a decision like that, so he didn’t do it.
Again, it was the right call. Chad wasn’t making this about him…he was making it about Henry.
