Speaking of reckless, dangerous and brain-dead…
How about Carl Edwards deliberately trying and succeeding in wrecking Brad Keselowski's rig Saturday? Memo to NASCAR: any time you want to get around to suspending Edwards…that would be great. Sure, you're in a bad spot now, after condoning, if not encouraging your drivers to get into one another. But even Edwards had to know when Brian France called NASCAR a contact sport and said, "we want to see drivers mixing it up. Boys have at it"…he wasn't giving you a green light to put a guy into the stands. Yeah, boys will be boys. Until a driver gets killed! And takes some fans with him…
Don't confuse carrying out vigilante justice on the track with running hard, trading some paint and trying to win a race. That's now what Edwards was doing. His race had already ended. He was 156 laps back when he sent Keselowski flying; he was out there for one reason. To get Keselowski; he was looking for payback. And for no good reason!
He didn't wreck Edwards earlier in the day. That contact wasn't his fault. He didn't do anything to Edwards. Well, at least not Saturday he didn't. But there's bad blood and history there, and Edwards took matters into his own hands.
Look, NASCAR's interest and ratings are waning, but I don't think having the drivers kill one other or the fans is the way to pump them back up. Edwards needs to sit for at least a week before this really gets out of hand and someone does die.
