The Colts’ decision to break off Jim Caldwell is hardly shocking. They had already run the Polians: Caldwell himself just completed a disastrous 2-14 season. And the team has a new GM in Ryan Grigson, who’s obviously going to want to bring in his own coach. The real question is, what’s all this mean to Peyton Manning? Considering Manning probably did more to coach the team than Caldwell did, I’d say there’s nothing to see here, just keep moving. But the truth is, if the Colts really were intent on bringing Manning back for one more shot, why would they fire everyone around him and look to rebuild?. Why would you ask Manning to waste the last year or two of his career familiarizing himself with a new coach and system? The answer is, you wouldn’t.

Look... I have no idea where Manning’s at physically, but if you’re going to blow out your front office and your coach, you have to think the 35 year old q.b., with three neck surgeries in 19 months and a $28 million bonus due to him, is next. If you were looking to bring him back for one last run, you wouldn’t be busting the whole thing up. You’d be looking for consistency, stability and continuity. I understand Jim Irsay’s loyalty to Manning: Manning did build him his stadium. So throw him a $28 million dollar going away party. Or buy him a yacht. But you’ve got a team to run, you’ve got to start the clock on Andrew Luck and he’s ready to play right now.
I know this so harsh, but so is the NFL. Next man up.
