Miller Gets Bigger Ovation Than Sid
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I can’t stop talking hockey! Yeah, and the Olympics don’t do anything for the NHL. And there’s no tangible benefit or buzz that follows the Olympians back to the league. That’s why, Pittsburgh Penguin fans gave Buffalo Sabres’ goalie Ryan Miller a bigger ovation than they did their own superstar Sid Crosby last night. Great moment! They weren't disrespecting Sid, they were showing their respect for Miller. They have the rest of their lives to cheer Sid, but were going to take a moment to get on their feet for their fellow American. A rare opportunity to go against the grain; it was classy gesture. And a significant one! It goes to show just how huge that game was and how fierce that rivalry has become. That's NFL fans cheering an opposing goalie more than their franchise player, a guy who delivered them a Stanley the season before. Yeah, but what happens in Vancouver, stays in Vancouver. LeBron Changes Number…Respect For 45
Hats off to LeBron James for relinquishing his number 23 jersey as a way of acknowledging Michael Jordan! He's right; no one but Jordan should wear that number. A magnanimous move by the 'King'! Yeah, about as magnanimous as Rickey Henderson honoring Lou Brock when he ripped his stolen base record! Yeah, he's doing it to honor Jordan. And I'm Bill Russell! You're doing it honor Jordan?! You've decided that no one but Mike is worthy of rocking that jersey…after a decade of doing just that, yourself. Yeah, you think no one but Mike should wear that number. Yeah, that or your switching numbers because everyone has already bought your jersey and you’re looking to make a huge cash grab by throwing on a new one, "number six". Wait, so you're not worthy enough to wear Jordan's gear, but it's o.k. to wear Bill Russell's and Dr. J's?! Or it will be, until you sell out of that one and decide that you want to honor them, by changing to Jerry West's... More » |
Boeheim & Syracuse Win Big East
"Answer: this Hall of Fame college basketball coach and even better human being has won a National Championship and over 800 games, but has not won his conference outright in nearly 20 years." "Who is…James Arthur Boeheim." "Correct!" And you cab strike that from the record, because Jim Boeheim and the 'Cuse ripped the Big East title last night when they hammered St. John's. I'll tell you something else that hasn't happened in a long time. When do you think was the last time Jim Boeheim won National Coach the Year honors? Right…never. And that better change right now. Sure, Frank Martin has worked a small miracle at Kansas State. And John Calipari has already gotten his grill on a bottle on bourbon. And when Steve Alford isn't mouthing opposing players, he’s done a nifty little job in Albuquerque. But no one has done a better job this year than "Jimmy B". The 'Cuse was picked to finish...
